The Vaterland

I made it to Germany... last Thursday actually. Sorry to keep you in suspense, but we've been super busy. Between house hunting, car shopping, tours, in-processing, phone shopping, hitting the town, and finding out way around, I can't believe how much we've accomplished.

Here's our own little hooptie. It's a 92 Golf... low mileage, and per Craig's request, a manual. We bought it from a nice German guy. We probably paid too much for it, but we were in desperate need of transportation, and neither of us have the knowledge or tools to fix up cars, so we wanted something that was ready to go. Speaking of nice Germans, the people here love to talk! Another one of those traits that makes me go, "I don't think my family knows just how German they are."

I don't have photos of our house. We'l be moving in next week, so pictures to follow. The village we'll be living in is about 5 minutes from Craig's work, which we were really fortunate to find. It's really rural and small, which I'm sure I'll fit right in, and is about 10-15 minutes from a decent sized city. Here's a preview of Langwieden.

For those of you that don't know, that is a box spreader... a very old one. What does it spread you ask? Manure, my friends. That means someone in town has farm animals, which warms my heart like you wouldn't believe. Our landlord seems nice, and has told us there's a very good restaurant in the village. I can't wait to get settled.

So far, the experience has been positive... oh, and yes, the beer is good...

Friday Fill-In 7

1. What is something you wished you’d learned to do earlier in life?
I wished I would have learned to sew and do woodworking. I don't know how to do either yet, but it's on my list. Also, I agree with Wife of a Sailor- I've driven stick only once, and it was last year. My boss had me borrow his truck to take something into town to get fixed- he was flabbergasted that as a 25 year old, I never drove a stick. It was like the third day on the job, and I was almost in tears in front of him. Not one of my finer moments.

2. What is your biggest pet peeve with the military?
Not getting things done in a timely fashion, and there always seems to be paperwork lost somewhere in the process.

3. What tourist attraction near you have you never seen?
Here in Wisconsin, I've never been to Noah's Ark Waterpark. Also never been to the EAA Fly-In or the Packer Hall of Fame to see the Lombardi Trophies.

4. What are you avoiding doing right now?
My family's computer needs to be cleaned off and Windows 7 installed, but I'm procrastinating.

5. Wine, beer or liquor?
Beer most of the time! It's the German in me.

Greetings from Wisconsin

Wow, that sounds like a postcard... as I write this, I am in beautiful Wisconsin and life is good. Went to the state fair today, mowed lawn, got to play with some cows, saw my sister show her calf (she did awesome!)..... aaaaand Craig is somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean!

My sisters also take photography as a 4-H project, and one of my sister's photos was selected for state fair, which there only a few from each county to go to the state level. I'd post it, but my family's computer is having trouble reading her SD card, grr!

Also, I'm pretty pumped to have 21 followers. I feel like I'm going to have to watch what I say more. Also, it creeps me out that my family actually reads this, which is funny, because that's the whole reason I started this in the first place.
